Per the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the editors of Consumer Reports recently recommended the following advice for protecting and caring for down comforters: "Spot cleaning whenever possible because goose down loses a bit of its airiness with each washing or dry cleaning. Protect down comforters with a removable cover. Shake and fluff bedding often to keep the feathers from becoming permanently squashed."
A duvet cover is a great way to protect your down comforter.
