The Maui News recently reported the attempted theft of two Hawaiian comforters valued at nearly $600. An attentive Sears store security officer in Kahului, Hawaii saw a man walk out of the store with the comforters without paying. The store security officer noted the get away truck and reported the incident to the police. After reviewing store security tapes and finding the suspect and truck, an arrest was made. The suspect eventually plead no contest to the comforter caper and was sentenced to 30 consecutive weekends in jail, placed on five years' probation and ordered to pay a fine of $2,400.
Note, the average year round temperaturte in Kahului, Hawaii is about 76 degrees Fahrenheit. The average year round high and low daily temperatures are about 83 and 67 degrees Fahrenheit. I hope the suspect was trying to get summer weight comforters.
