How To Dry A Down Comforter

The best way to clean a down comforter is in a larger front loading washing machine, like the ones found in commercial laundromats. After washing, use a dryer to fluff up the wet down comforter and put tennis balls in the dryer to help break up the wet down and prevent it from clumping together.

Carolyn Forte the director of home appliances and cleaning products at the Good Housekeeping Research Institute, recently recommended inserting objects into the dryer when drying down comforters. "Down can get clumpy, and it needs constant fluffing to dry," she says. "As long as it's fluffed, it can dry more quickly." Some clean tennis balls will do the trick.
